A telephoto lens allows you to shoot objects from a distance. The longer the zoom the less light enters the camera. When using a telephoto lens, it’s ideal to have good lighting conditions.
If you shoot in a poorly lit environment you will need to compensate with a low shutter speed. A low shutter speed will make your images blurry if there is slight movement of the camera or if there’s movement of objects in the image. If you’re shooting a product shot then you can shoot using a tripod and a low shutter speed at a high zoom.
When using a telephoto lens there is no warp distortion of the image like when using a wide angle lens. The more you zoom the distortion is in the form of blurriness. Objects not in focus in front of and behind the main object will appear blurry. The more you zoom the more the blur effect will be apparent.
Depending on the zoom there will be a depth of field. As long as you remain in that field your images will be in focus. Knowing your depth of field range will allow you to have certain images blurred and others in focus.
