Chennai Photography Club announces Shuttershoot – Royapuram Fishing Harbour

Chennai Photography Club is organizing a Shuttershoot on the 3rd Oct 2010 at the Royapuram Fishing Harbour. There will be multiple photo opportunities during this shoot and those reaching the venue before sunrise will benefit the most.

About the Location

The Royapuram fishing harbour has provided the location for many films and now Chennai Photography Club. The Chennai Photography Club has been to the Harbour couple of times earlier. We concentrate our photoshoot to the less intrusive and the less controversial outer bund.

The Harbour is a general fishing harbour with a bund around it to protect the motor boats from the sea and has a 100 metre or so opening somewhere at the centre of the bund.

What do we get to shoot

The location is very good for shooting sunrise shots as the bund takes you well into the sea and also provides some amount of elevation which you do not get in a beach. In a beach we tend to get waves ,etc in the foreground but here you can expect to get a boat and the round sun in your picture

You can at times get a crab or two to shoot and as an added bonus you may get to  shoot some silhouettes , portraits , etc

The Plan

The participants to reach the venue sharp by 5.30 am (if you would like to get the sunrise shot, the best for the day)

We meet on the bund and then start taking pictures and then end the shoot by about 7 am

How to reach the venue

Drive all the way from the parry’s corner on the ennore highway to reach the N4 police station. Just beside the N4 Police station on the ennore highway is the entrance to the fishing harbour bund. Just before the police station you will also find a petrol bunk

DO NOT enter the fishing harbour office entrance that this well before this entrance on ennore highway

Camera Settings – Camera Modes

It has come to my attention that most camera owners do not venture off of the Auto Mode setting in their camera. I don’t know why this is a surprise to me. People are timid when it comes to trying new things on their cameras. Why is this true? Come on People. Get your fanny off Auto! Here is a brief rundown of the settings that are common to most digital cameras, both point and shoot and digital SLR. Basic Camera Modes –  these are the ones that will set your camera up for success. You set it, the camera does the rest. The reason they are called Basic Modes? When you choose one of these modes, you are giving the digital camera “Carte Blanche” to do what it does best. You don’t have any more control over the settings. You can’t choose the ISO, the White Balance, the Picture Quality (you CAN set the picture size). All you get to do after selecting a Basic Mode is to press the shutter button. Full Automatic Mode: –  This is the one most camera owners use, whether ...
