Flower Photography: Providing naturally beautiful shots with little effort

Nature photography is one of the most popular amongst amateur photographers. This is obviously because of the beauty and natural colors and effects that can be seen. Flower photography is the most popular subcategory because of its rewarding nature that gives you such a huge variation of shapes and colors. There are a few things that you can do to improve the quality of your flower photos and these are listed for you below. Flowers are naturally beautiful objects so it is not hard to take a decent picture, however to really turn that picture into something extraordinary you have to mix it up a little.

If you really want your photos to stand out amongst the others you should try and get a different angle and perspective on the flowers. The majority of flower photography is done from a slightly tilted down angle from about eye level. While this produced good pictures as it is seen as almost comfortable and usual, to really capture something different you should try and get amongst the flowers at ground level (how about trying to give a bug’s eye view of what flowers mean to them and really emphasize that).

Whatever your idea is, just try something a bit different, and whilst it may not work as a photo it may give you some experience and future ideas to work with. Try and use the natural light provided. The beauty of flowers is that they are mostly outside meaning you already have a great light source to work with. The light source will also automatically change throughout the day meaning a dawn photograph can look dramatically different from an afternoon picture in bright sunlight. Use this natural source to your advantage, especially looking to get out in early morning conditions if there is dew about on the flowers as this can provide a great natural effect.

If you are getting down and personal in between the flowers then your grip on the camera may not always be steady. Use a tripod to ensure there is no blurriness in your pictures and also to prevent you from falling into the perfect looking flowers that you have found to take pictures of! Mix up your use of close up and wide shots to produce different effects. Also keep in mind the use of what is in the background of photos you are taking; you can use the background by blurring it out to add emphasis to your foreground shot or vice versa.  You can stop the problem of wind ruining your photos and making them blurry by creating a wind break. This will make the flowers sharper in the picture, but remember you could also potentially use the wind to your advantage as it can naturally produce a great effect. Whatever you decide to do with your flower photography remember that the elements can provide great shots or prove to be a hindrance so plan ahead what shots you might like to take so you can be well prepared!

Camera Lens F-Stop Values Explained

Lens aperture settings are commonly knows as f-stops. The letter "f" is an abbreviation of the term "focal-ratio", which describes the ratio of the lens's focal length to the diameter of the light entrance pupil (more commonly called the aperture). The standard sequence of f-stops is: f/1.4 f/2 f/2.8 f/4 f/5.6 f/8 f/11 f/16 f/22 On this scale, an f/1.4 setting is the largest aperture, while f/22 is the smallest, and each f-stop in the sequence is half the size of its neighbour to the left, and twice the size of its neighbour to the right. In other words, f/5.6 permits the passage of twice as much light as f/8, but only half the light of f/4. Low f-stop numbers represent larger apertures, and higher f-stop numbers indicate smaller apertures because the f-stop is a ratio is between the size of the aperture and the focal length of the lens; i.e. a bigger number represents a larger difference. Here's the maths for a 50mm lens. f-stop / Diameter (...

Automatically Update Your Facebook Page From Your Photo Blog

This video shows you step by step how to automatically create a post on your Facebook wall whenever you add a new post to your blog, without needing to do any extra work. This is a great way to keep people coming back to your website every time you add something new, espcially when you get to the stage where your Facebook page has hundreds, and even thousands of fans. One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that there are many app’s that will post your blog to a tab on your Facebook page, but this is virtually worthless. You see the only way people will come and check out your stuff is if it gets posted on their wall via your wall. And the best way to do this is to create a direct link between your blog and your Facebook wall using the method showed in this video, rather than using one of the Facebook app’s that simply creates a tab called ‘Blog’. For some people this may seem fairly advanced, but the reason I’ve included it is because it can be very powerful for yo...
